Our team has been using hands instead of cards for years, with Fibonacci though. Not sure how it started, it was already being used when I joined the team. We use hands to estimate stories (need two hands for 8+) and tasks (usually below 5 pairing sessions, so one hand). We did the "ready?... go!" thing for a while, but to speed things up even more people just started raising their fists when they're ready to vote. Creates some subtle peer pressure to not debate forever as well. The ScrumMaster calls "go" when all fists are up.

I like the power-of-two/one-hand approach, and the energy of "Ro-Sham-Bo... Shoot!". Wish our team still had the same energy level...

Sound like good fun and maybe even a way to speed up the estimation process. I might just have to try it out next time I facilitate a similar session.
